To limit or not to limit with holdem

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

According to Doyle Brunson, known poker player and author , no-limit hold’em is the Cadillac of poker. It is great for a master to play no-limit – even the pros admit they still have much to learn. But do not be alarmed, in my opinion, no-limit hold’em is the form of more exciting poker .

After playing no-limit exclusively online, I noticed he had two things to learn: to master the game and the ability to adapt to the opponent’s game. Be aware of his skills in no-limit, what steps you have mastered the game. Once you know your strengths, we must see how you can use to put pressure on your opponents weaknesses.

To keep things simple, I will divide the skills in no-limit in a few degrees . Mastering all these degrees should allow you to increase your earnings.
1. Pot odds

It is imperative that you evaluate your chances before bidding if you’re shooting. As you dictate the size of the stake (not fixed), you need to know whether or not you have the advantage.

For example, take a pot-raised with 55 represents a good bet. If you draw a set, you can expect to earn a big (players not expecting, and will follow with top pair). On the other side, let’s say that you hope to make a turn color. The pot is $ 10 and someone bets “carpet” ($ 20). In this case, your chances are virtually nil. You have one chance in five to pull the right card, and you must wager $ 20 to win $ 50.

It sounds simple, but many players have not yet mastered this skill! So if you are not yet comfortable with the pot odds, do not worry too much. You’re not alone and the others did not even realize it.
2. The differences between limit and no-limit

The ambush is much less than in no-limit limit because in employing this strategy, you can give a fatal card to your opponent. In limit poker, one that has the second best hand loses a bit, but in no-limit, it is possible to lose everything.
3. Aggression

In no-limit, it is better to bet that follow. When you bet, you can win if you have the better hand or if your opponent passes. If you do that follow, you can only win if your hand is best. If you bet, it’s up to you to dictate the size of the bet. You determine the pot odds. If you follow, you’re accepting the odds dictated by your opponent.

If you bet, you force others to follow you when you have a good hand. If you follow mainly, hopefully to be followed in turn. The importance of aggression is why conservative-passive players can earn much more limited than no-limit.
4. Rapid adjustments

The different versions require different levels of aggression. Games encourage the player imprudent short-aggressive. By cons, if you play against a lot of unwary opponent, you become cautious and wait to have a good hand. In general, success comes when you do not play like others. If everyone plays recklessly, play safe. If everyone plays safely, take the opportunity to steal pots.
